This idea was given to me by the incomparable Mrs. Meredith. I changed it up to suit my class and here are the basics for a SNOWY fun-filled educationally enriched writing activity.

Penguin Puppets

I am getting excited about my Penguin theme coming up in January.  Last year I really got organized so this year I can add more fun and learning. Today I made some samples of penguin puppets. I have made these in the past but this time I made sure to use authentic feet, eye and beak colors for the different types of penguins. I was having so much fun doing research I added 5 Fun Facts for the back of each penguin too. Here's some photos.  I'll post photos when the kids make them - because they will undoubtedly be much cuter. Templates available on TPT Penguin Puppets

The Best Part of Me - writing activity

I can jump and run. I can play soccer and baseball. I like my legs.

Not only did I pin this idea - I used it! I know I will use it again too.  Try it. 

Speech Bubbles of Fun!

Hmm, wonder what the kids will have this girl say?

Speech bubbles are a fun way to get kids to think about "voice." Funny photos and classroom photos motivate even the most reluctant writer. Who doesn't want to make a puppy talk?

Gingerbread Man to the Max!

Give Directed Drawing a Try.  Draw the picture step by step with the students.  We just did the basic shape of the house and door.  The kids added details later.  I did have a model for them to look at.  But as you can see, each child made their gingerbread house distinctive - and CUTE!

Totem Pole and Tipi in the Classroom

Students also made their own smaller version of the Totem Pole. They had their own pictures to use to recreate the story of Raven a Trickster Tale by Gerald McDermott.
